Light of Human Kindness
The Light of Human Kindness project was a rare instance several artists and technologists were able to collaborate together to make something that not only looks beautiful, but has special meaning. This project started with painting an abandoned building, and filling it with words of kindness that have taken place in peoples lives. After that, a elaborate mural was painted over top, while still showing a lot of the original words. The final layer was to hang 1,000 high-output LED pods across the wall, and they were controlled with 2 experimental light controllers and a single computer.
If you go to the site you can upload an act of kindness, and in turn one of the LED pods will light up in real time. To take the idea of kindess even further, we integrated conductive paint spots into the mural so when people join hands and touch more than 1 at a time, the animation of the lights will change. And the more people holding hands, the cooler the animation.
